There
is no single "perfect" "designer" nose. Cosmetic nasal
surgery simply brings the nose into harmony with the
rest of the face. This can be accomplished by reducing
overall size, removing a bump, narrowing or widening
the sides of the nose, or improving the details of
the nasal tip and the angle between the nose and upper
lip. Unbalanced, crooked, or curved noses can be straightened
and made more symmetrical.
Working either from
entirely inside the nose or with small incision underneath
the nose just before it meets the upper lip, the
surgeon carefully modifies and reshapes the bones
and cartilages. Rhinoplasty usually takes between
1-3 hours. After surgery a cast is a placed to maintain
the new shape and protect the nose. Splints may be
placed inside the nose for support. Patients are
up and around in a day or 2 and any discomfort is
controlled by medication. Head elevation and cold
compresses on the eyes can minimize swelling and
bruising. The splints and cast are removed within
a week. Most bruising fades within 7-10 days, allowing
an inconspicuous return to work. There will be subtle
swelling of the nose which recedes slowly; the full
benefits become evident in weeks to months.
The final result is
a permanent improvement which lasts a lifetime.

The
eyes have a tremendous impact on appearance. Unfortunately,
eyes are often the first place to show signs of aging. Skin
around the eyes is half as thick as the rest of the facial
skin, has fewer oil glands, and weaker internal support.
The anatomic differences combine with heredity, sun damage,
stress, fatigue, and a lot of exercise to make the eyes "the
first to go". That is why range of people, young and old,
men & women, can benefit from eyelid surgery. The procedure
can remove bags, pouches, and excess skin from under and
over the eyes. It is sometimes accompanied by a eyebrow lift
to lessen forehead wrinkles and creases, and raise sagging,
eyebrows.
Eyelid surgery usually takes
1-2 hours. Through incisions made along natural skin creases,
the surgeon removes excess skin (which causes the wrinkles)
and unwanted fat (which causes the heaviness).
After surgery, any soreness
is controlled by medication and cold compresses limit swelling
and bruising. Occasionally, patients may experience excessive
tearing or light sensitivity. This usually responds to
eye drops and does not last long. Most patients are up
and around in a day or two and back to work in 7 to 10
days.
Friends and co-workers ask
patients if they have been away on vacation or on a new
health plan. For those whose drooping eyelids were limiting
their vision, eyelid surgery can provide a widened window
to the world. Patients look fit, refreshed, and alert.
They are amazed at how a little improvement around the
eyes can have such a dramatic impact on both the physical
appearance and mental attitude.
