With the popularity of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, some patients inquire about a “BOTOX brow lift” to determine whether the minimally invasive treatment is able to replicate the results of a surgical brow lift. Although the brow lift procedure and BOTOX® Cosmetic are both frequently utilized to treat upper facial aging, each approach differs greatly in technique and the quality of results produced.

The main distinction between these two treatment options is that a brow lift involves a surgical procedure, while BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical, in-office treatment. For this reason, brow lift surgery is able to address more severe signs of facial aging, including sagging skin on the forehead and deep glabellar wrinkles (frown lines). BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau™, on the other hand, are only capable of softening the lines that develop with repetitive facial expressions, such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead creases. These cosmetic injectables cannot improve sagging skin or lax musculature, which are usually indications for the brow lift procedure. Since a brow lift actually restores support for the skin and muscles of the forehead, surgery results in a long-term improvement that can last decades. In contrast, injectables require regular touch-up sessions to maintain the rejuvenation achieved from treatment.

That said, BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau™ can be excellent treatments to smooth wrinkles in the upper face if you would rather avoid surgery, incisions, anesthesia, and a recovery period. A surgical brow lift and BOTOX® Cosmetic can both help you age more gracefully, and the best treatment for you simply depends on your concerns, desires, and expectations for the outcome.
