Dr. Scott R. Miller uses innovative facelift techniques at his private practice to produce a more youthful, refreshed, natural-looking result.

San Diego, CA – Dr. Scott R. Miller, a board-certified San Diego plastic surgeon, knows that in the past, facelifts were sometimes associated with a plastic, unnatural look. However, he says, facelift procedures have been steadily gaining popularity and are now more effective at restoring a youthful appearance than ever before. After facelift surgery, Dr. Miller says his patients look refreshed, rested, healthy, and often years younger.

According to Dr. Miller, many of his facelift patients visit his practice wanting to eliminate sagging skin and wrinkles. Some of these patients have attempted to address these aesthetic concerns with non-surgical procedures such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal fillers, but they ultimately desire more dramatic results than non-surgical methods of treatment can provide. The average age of facelift patients at Dr. Miller’s practice ranges between 55-60, and these patients tend to be seeking a more aggressive approach to counteract the aesthetic effects of midlife aging. Dr. Miller believes patients are realizing more and more that quality facial enhancement surgery can produce the natural looking outcomes they desire.

Dr. Miller credits two factors to the steady rise in the number of facelift procedures performed each year: improved surgical techniques and increased public awareness. Innovations in facelift techniques have allowed plastic surgeons to create a younger, more vibrant look for their patients without making the surgery appear obvious or artificial. Dr. Miller views facelifts with an artistic eye, and employs a composite facelift approach at his practice. He says this technique allows both preservation of the hairline and a reshaping of the facial tissues that yields a longer-lasting and more natural-looking result. In addition, Dr. Miller uses the SCULPT (structural contouring using less pull and tension) facelift technique that moves the facial tissues as a unit to avoid an overdone or “pulled” look. He notes that, as facelift patients share their success stories with their friends, family, and coworkers, the facelift procedure has gradually become less of a mystery to the public and is instead often viewed as a proven method of achieving aesthetic facial rejuvenation.

Dr. Miller suggests that, of all the factors that go into a successful facelift, patients performing thorough pre-operative research is the most important. He recommends all plastic surgery patients investigate the credentials of their surgical provider and reminds his patients that board-certified plastic surgeons undergo special training for procedures such as facelift, rhinoplasty, and eyelid surgery. “The first chance is your best chance to get it right,” says Dr. Miller. “Do your research. A well done facelift looks natural and keeps you looking younger from that point forward.”
