San Diego, CA – At his San Diego plastic surgery practice, Dr. Scott R. Miller has noticed a recent increase in male plastic surgery. He has noticed, in particular, a rise in men interested in eyelid surgery, neck lift, and liposuction procedures. Dr. Miller notes that while many men have become more comfortable with non-surgical procedures such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, men’s recent increased attention to their cosmetic appearance has led to a rise in surgical procedures as well.

According to the San Diego plastic surgeon, there are a variety of reasons more men are gravitating toward aesthetic treatments. In a culture that increasingly values youth, men who are actively competitive in the workplace want their outer appearance to match their inner vitality. Cosmetic procedures can boost a patient’s self-confidence and yield rejuvenated energy levels in the office as a result. Another reason Dr. Miller says men are seeking cosmetic surgery is a desire to look their best for their romantic partners. In the same manner an aesthetic treatment can boost self-confidence in the workplace, they can also boost self-confidence in regard to a man’s significant other.

Dr. Miller, acknowledging that many men do not want the results of their aesthetic surgical procedures to be too “obvious,” assures his patients that he works to create a look that aligns with natural aesthetics while simultaneously achieving his patients’ individual goals. He seeks to balance the results of his treatments with a man’s natural facial features, making sure any given procedure does not leave his patients looking “overdone.”

Downtime after surgery depends on the procedure, and can range from a couple days to a few weeks. Eyelid surgery patients typically return to normal activities in 7-10 days. Neck lift patients have a recovery time that ranges from 1-2 weeks. For liposuction patients, depending upon the type of technique used during surgery, can return to normal daily activities from under a week to two weeks, allowing more time for the return to heavy exercise.

As more men seek cosmetic plastic surgery, Dr. Miller stresses the importance of educating his male patients on everything from male breast reduction surgery to facial rejuvenation procedures. He devotes time and energy to ensure each male patient has comprehensive knowledge of every viable cosmetic option he has.
